book Investment and new hobby

Book investment and a new hobby

I don't know if I've mentioned it previously but I volunteer in a charity shop and I see perfect things being thrown away all the time. A lot of people won't shop in charity shops because they think they are for the poor or because they think the items are of bad quality. Both of these reasons are myths because volunteers such as myself sort through everything before it's on the shelves. The things that are donated do often belong to old-age pensioners or people that have passed away meaning they are old items. However, I like to use the term vintage to describe them since a lot of them are worth more than they are sold for. Just keep this in mind next time you go to a charity shop. You never know what you might find.

What did I find?

During this particular day, I was sorting through a new donation of books and organising the bookshelves. I happened to come across an original first edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It was the paperback edition but it was in mint condition and had the amazing artwork covers that the originals had. Now where I live I was bound to find a Harry Potter book but didn't expect to.

I've heard that they are worth quite a bit so holding onto one for some time ought to give me some capital in future. I also found this journal/scrapbook on one of the shelves. I know it says grandad I kinda missed that when I opened the book and found places to stick photos and write things. A bit like a bullet journal. I thought It would be cool to fill the journal with pictures to create an object that might be useful in future.

I don't just mean grandchildren but also any child that is born in the next Millenium. The book allows me to put in photos and drawings on topics such as family, friends and favourite music. All these things are history and culture and although it's great that it changes it's also cool when it is revived such as when punk was revived and adopted by a modern audience. As a side project, I am going to fill up the journal and create more blog posts dedicated to it to show how we can impact history and preserve our present. I'm also going to do some more thrift store shopping and document rare finds I come across.
